The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that innovation is the primary driving force behind development. At the start of the new year, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.—a leading pharmaceutical enterprise in our city—has designated 2019 as the “Year of Technological Innovation.” On January 21, all research personnel from the Shiji Pharmaceutical Research Institute gathered together. The institute’s director and deputy directors in charge took to the stage one by one to break down the 2019 innovation goals, clearly defining the responsible individuals, specific objectives, timelines, and performance metrics.
“This year, we’re striving to secure several significant new product manufacturing approvals. We also hope to make positive progress in the development of first-in-class new drugs, further fueling our company’s transformation and upgrading as well as its high-quality development!” said Qu Jiguang, Chairman of Shisi Pharmaceutical, expressing his strong anticipation for corporate innovation.
As we stepped into 2019, Shisi Pharmaceutical enjoyed a series of exciting milestones in R&D innovation—after five years of development, the company obtained national drug registration approvals for three specifications of a combined polypropylene plastic ampoule-packaged ambroxol hydrochloride injection, as well as two specifications of tirofiban hydrochloride sodium injection. Following last year’s recognition of its research project with the First Prize for Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress, in January of this year, the research project “Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Bromhexine Hydrochloride Glucose Injection” once again stood out and was awarded the Third Prize for Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress.
The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has encouraged innovation and called for the cultivation and development of a large number of high-level innovative talents and teams. In the recently concluded year of 2018, Shiyao Group deepened its efforts in building innovation platforms and managing its workforce, assembling a high-level innovation team comprising over 400 members. Through continuous refinement, its technological innovation system—and its performance evaluation and management mechanisms—have become increasingly mature, scientific, and well-defined. These systems are now generating a “fission effect,” leading to an impressive and ever-growing stream of new products and technologies.
In 2018, Shisi Pharmaceutical was recognized by relevant national ministries and commissions as a National Enterprise Technology Center and a National Demonstration Enterprise for Technological Innovation. Coupled with the previously established National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Quality Control of Chemical Injection Products, these high-level innovation platforms are playing an increasingly significant role in supporting the company’s innovation efforts. The project “Establishment and Application of a Quality Control Technical System for Soft-Packaged Large Volume Infusions” won the First Prize for Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress. The number of newly developed products and patent applications approved and filed by the company has been growing rapidly, placing it among the industry leaders in terms of invention patents held. A series of new products, including moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection, sodium acetate Ringer’s solution injection, and blood filtration replacement fluid, have been successively put into production.
The unleashing of innovative potential has effectively invigorated the market. Rooted in both domestic and international markets, Shiyao Group has been focusing on enhancing both the quality and quantity of its business growth. In 2018, the company added over 200 new customers. Its high-value-added products—such as stand-up pouch infusions, double-layer sterilized infusions, and small-volume injections—have steadily expanded their market share, strongly supporting the continued rapid growth of sales revenue from its flagship products and further solidifying and strengthening its leading position in the industry. At the same time, the company’s capability for international operations has significantly improved. Last year, it developed 37 new international clients and completed five international quality audits and certifications in countries including the Netherlands and Pakistan. To date, the company has achieved product registrations in a total of 83 countries, with export volumes increasing year after year. For two consecutive years, it has been recognized as a “Leading Enterprise in Pharmaceutical Formulation Internationalization,” marking a new highlight in the company’s innovative business strategy.
“Innovation-driven development requires a long-term perspective. We must build a high-level R&D and innovation base that provides ample opportunities for top-notch talent to fully demonstrate their abilities,” revealed Qu Jiguang. He added that the Shisi Pharmaceutical drug R&D platform, along with its pilot-scale testing and industrialization support facilities—located in the Shijiazhuang High-tech Zone—is nearing completion and is expected to be put into operation within this year. Leveraging this project, Shisi Pharmaceutical is targeting the cutting edge of international pharmaceutical quality control technologies and engineering. Grounded in the domestic chemical pharmaceutical and injectable drug industry, the company adopts an integrated “industry-academia-research” model characterized by multidisciplinary integration and multi-faceted collaboration. While focusing on the creation and implementation of nationally significant innovative drugs, Shisi Pharmaceutical will also accelerate its efforts to deepen and broaden its innovation in areas such as antimicrobial agents, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular drugs, respiratory system medications, psychiatric drugs, and novel compounds. The company is committed to achieving new breakthroughs in core technologies and building new momentum for its innovative, green, and high-quality development.
