On the morning of January 10, the Hebei Province Science and Technology Awards and Science and Technology Innovation Conference was held in Shijiazhuang, where units and individuals awarded the Hebei Province Science and Technology Awards for 2018 were recognized and honored. Our company’s research project, “Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Bromhexine Hydrochloride Glucose Injection,” stood out and won the Third Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award. This marks the second time our company has received a provincial-level science and technology progress award.

It is reported that bromhexine hydrochloride has a potent mucolytic and expectorant effect and is clinically used in the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, and emphysema. It is particularly suitable for patients who have difficulty coughing up thick mucus and for those experiencing shortness of breath caused by extensive mucus obstruction in the small bronchi. Bromhexine hydrochloride is a commonly prescribed first-line mucolytic drug both domestically and internationally. However, bromhexine hydrochloride is extremely sparingly soluble in water, making it difficult to formulate into injectable preparations. Moreover, large-volume injectables are prohibited from containing solubilizing agents or other additives, which could potentially lead to safety risks such as the disulfiram reaction and hemolysis, posing a serious threat to patients’ lives. Thus, how to develop injectable formulations while ensuring product quality and maintaining safety during clinical preparation and administration has become a significant challenge for the industry to address.
After years of tackling tough challenges, the company has conducted comprehensive and in-depth innovation and research into the dissolution mechanism and process principles of bromhexine hydrochloride glucose injection. By leveraging core patented key technologies, the company has successfully overcome the dissolution barriers of bromhexine hydrochloride, resulting in a formulation method that is simple and easy to implement. This approach has significantly improved labor efficiency, markedly reduced the levels of related substances in the product, and ensured the stability of the drug. The company has also established corresponding production control technologies and a quality standard system, fundamentally enhancing product safety and substantially improving both product quality and clinical efficacy. The company’s technological level has reached an internationally leading position.
During the course of this research project, the company obtained a total of three core patents and developed one national pharmaceutical standard. The project has yielded significant economic and social benefits and has earned the trust of numerous medical institutions and patients.
