On the morning of April 2, in Workshop 203 of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., motors hummed cheerfully as infusion products sped along the production line, ready to head off to “distant lands.” Li Bo, manager of the foreign trade department at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., told reporters: “These products will soon be exported via sea freight to Southeast Asian countries.”
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has actively responded to the market impact caused by the epidemic, maintaining unwavering focus on foreign trade. Building on its previous reliance on single large-volume intravenous solution exports, the company has optimized its export structure by increasing exports of finished dosage forms and active pharmaceutical ingredients. With these “three driving forces” working in tandem, the company continues to open up new markets. In the first quarter of this year, foreign trade sales increased by 28.71% compared to the same period last year.
To date, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has obtained nearly 30 international certifications and undergone quality audits in multiple countries. The company has cumulatively achieved export sales in over 90 countries and regions and has registered more than 200 product specifications, including ciprofloxacin lactate sodium injection, metronidazole sodium chloride injection, sodium lactate Ringer’s injection, 18AA amino acid injection, and mannitol injection. In 2019, the company’s foreign trade exports exceeded 200 million yuan, firmly establishing its position as the leader among domestic intravenous solution manufacturers in terms of exports, with double-digit growth rates maintained for eight consecutive years.
Abidol is a new formulation that Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has begun exporting. “In the past couple of days, Uzbekistan placed an order for 80,000 Abidol tablets. We’ve now finalized the contract and are stepping up production,” said Li Weimin, Deputy General Manager in charge of foreign trade at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical. This marks the first batch of export orders for formulations from Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical.

Saudi Arabia is a new trade partner that Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical has developed this year. In mid-February, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical shipped nearly 300,000 bags of soft-packaged intravenous solutions to Saudi Arabia. Currently, Sihua Pharmaceutical’s finished dosage products—especially those related to COVID-19 countermeasures—are undergoing relevant certification procedures in more than 10 countries and regions. These countries and regions will all become new members of Sihua Pharmaceutical’s international “circle of friends.”

“From raw materials to production and finally to shipment, our process technology implements the strictest quality assurance measures. This enables our company’s foreign trade export business to truly align with international standards,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical. The company has invested over 1.8 billion yuan in upgrading its infusion preparations and active pharmaceutical ingredients. All production equipment and facilities have been designed and built according to the world’s most advanced EU standards, and the equipment itself is of the highest global caliber. These advantages—unmatched by other domestic infusion manufacturers—provide a robust guarantee for tapping into the high-end markets in Europe and the U.S., as well as other emerging markets, and simultaneously pave the way for our products to reach markets worldwide.
“Over the past few years, we’ve successfully established high-level research and innovation platforms—including the National Enterprise Technology Center, the National Demonstration Enterprise for Technological Innovation, the National-Local Joint Laboratory, and the Postdoctoral Research Workstation—significantly boosting our technological innovation capabilities. We’ve developed a comprehensive, scientific, and well-defined technological innovation system, and our technological innovation capacity and level have begun to join the ‘national team.’ Currently, we’re working on 168 ongoing projects, with innovation investments nearing 200 million yuan,” said Sun Lijie, Director of the Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Research Institute.

▲ Workers are loading and shipping the goods.
At the Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Logistics Center, forklifts are bustling back and forth as workers rush to load three large transport trucks. Li Bo explained that these are intravenous infusion products being shipped to Vietnam, and during the Spring Festival period, shipments are loaded and dispatched almost every single day. He said that during the pandemic, Vietnam implemented a 14-day quarantine inspection for goods entering its borders. To ensure that buyers can pick up their goods without delay, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical gives priority to production and shipment of orders destined for Vietnam, guaranteeing on-time delivery.
“Hello, Mr. Hasseid. Let’s finalize the details of the business contract for the 2 million bottles of soft-packaged infusion products we discussed last time,” said Ma Xiaoli, deputy manager of the Foreign Trade Department at Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical, as she spoke with Mr. Hasseid, General Manager of Kenya United Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., via an international phone call on April 2. “Mr. Hasseid comes to our company every now and then,” Ma Xiaoli continued. “Although the pandemic has temporarily disrupted personnel exchanges, we’ve been staying in touch every week. As a result, our business hasn’t just remained uninterrupted—it’s actually kept expanding.”
We deliver on our commitments without any delays, and our phone lines never drop. Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical’s “circle of friends” in foreign economic and trade relations continues to grow, with a steady stream of products heading to markets around the world. “Next, we’ll focus on stepping up our international marketing efforts for new products and active pharmaceutical ingredients, aiming to capture a larger share of the global market,” Li Weimin said with great confidence.
