This year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 is a day of combat for female employees who are fighting on the front lines of epidemic prevention and production.
They were once the well-behaved and adorable daughters in their parents’ eyes, the tender and virtuous wives in their husbands’ eyes, and the kind and loving mothers in their children’s eyes—ordinary people just like us. In the battle against COVID-19, they donned their work uniforms as battle attire, fearlessly fighting on the front lines of production, giving their all day and night without rest, and demonstrating a sense of responsibility that truly embodies the spirit of “women are no less capable than men.” On the frontline of epidemic prevention and control and production, they left behind their most beautiful selves. This spring, “flowers blooming to greet the spring amid the epidemic” are radiating their charm even in the biting cold wind.
Even a gentle shoulder can bear great responsibilities.
Rong Yanyan is the workshop director of the oral dosage form production facility at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. On New Year’s Eve, she received her assignment and, after briefly taking care of her young children at home, hurriedly made her way to the factory, becoming one of the first “reverse commuters” at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical. She stayed on the job for a full month and a half.
After more than forty days of intense activity, Rong Yanyan can no longer recall the specifics of when she volunteered—but the conviction that “If there’s a battle, we’ll answer the call and surely win” has firmly taken root in her heart.

Even with delicate shoulders, she shoulders heavy responsibilities—women are every bit as capable as men. The oral dosage-form workshop where she works is tasked with producing the antiviral drug abidol hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants that serve as pandemic reserves. Faced with one challenge after another following the resumption of production after the Spring Festival, she racked her brains to find solutions; when all else failed, she rallied the company’s resources to tackle the problems head-on. Before this slender yet resilient figure, one problem after another was solved, one obstacle after another was “cleared.” The joint upgrade of the abidol capsule production line was a complete success, boosting efficiency by 20%; and the disinfectant production line, empowered by technology, has shifted away from relying on sheer manpower, dramatically increasing its production capacity.
“The abidol capsules and disinfectants produced here have been continuously sent to the front lines of epidemic prevention and control. Hearing that patients in Wuhan are now using the medicines we’ve manufactured—and knowing that we’re contributing our humble efforts to cheering on Wuhan and China—fills me with a deep sense of responsibility and mission as a pharmaceutical professional.”
In her relatively small “territory,” she takes more than 30,000 steps every day. Her hurried pace bears witness to her busy and hardworking life. Like Rong Yanyan, workshop deputy directors Tian Lili and Yang Junhong also stick to their posts on the front lines, day and night.
On International Women’s Day, when asked about her wish, she said, “I’m a Party member—persevere, persevere, and keep persevering, until the moment we achieve victory over the epidemic!”
There’s always a heroine’s dedication that warms others.
Han Huijuan, the packaging team leader in the oral dosage form workshop, is a soon-to-be mother of her second child and has been working tirelessly alongside her colleagues for over a month.
She was standing by the automatic boxing machine, clad in a clean suit and sporting a noticeably rounded belly, operating the control panel, double-checking process parameters, and inspecting the variation in capsule fill weights. This has been her work routine ever since New Year’s Eve. By the end of the day, she was so exhausted that her waist and legs ached, and her feet had even begun to swell—but she never once complained. “Being able to do something for Wuhan, for Hubei—no matter how tired I am, it’s all worth it.”

On New Year’s Eve, Han Huijuan, six months pregnant, had just returned home from her vacation to reunite with her family when she suddenly received a call from the workshop announcing the resumption of production. “The COVID-19 situation in Hubei is extremely severe, and we urgently need to mobilize Abidol. The factory is asking us to get the production line up and running as soon as possible. Please inform everyone to overcome these difficulties and return to their posts as quickly as possible!”
Hai Liuliang, the spouse of a worker at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., drove her to the factory early in the morning. Along the way, as she gazed at the empty streets, she couldn't help but feel deeply troubled. As soon as she arrived at the workshop, despite her physical limitations, she swiftly changed into her work uniform with remarkable efficiency. “Speeding up production is tantamount to fighting the illness and racing against death—we can’t afford to slow down.”
“Guaranteeing production is a responsibility. With three shifts running around the clock—people take breaks but the machines keep rolling at full capacity—the output has more than doubled compared to normal days.” Since the outbreak, the oral dosage form workshop at Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has become the busiest workshop in the factory. All 150 employees are fully on duty, and the vast majority are female workers—with not a single one falling behind.
On February 27, the factory organized party members and employees to make donations. Han Huijuan and her husband, both deeply compassionate individuals, generously contributed their share. “Medical workers risk their lives without hesitation, even willing to give up their own lives to save patients—what’s a small donation from us compared to that?!”
On Women’s Day, Han Huijuan has a wish: “I hope the pandemic will pass soon and life will return to peace and tranquility.”
Take courageous responsibility and charge ahead.
A fierce outbreak of the novel coronavirus swept through Wuhan and then spread across the entire country. On January 24, Han Shuqin, the deputy general manager in charge of production at Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical, who was at the hospital caring for her elderly, ill mother, received an urgent call from the factory urging her to resume production.
“The epidemic is an order.” Han Shuqin, who has weathered the trials of SARS and H1N1 outbreaks, deeply understands the importance of emergency preparedness and response. Without hesitation, she rose to her feet, tearfully bid farewell to her elderly mother, carrying with her the guilt of not being able to care for her at her bedside. She immediately rushed to the factory and threw herself into command and coordination efforts. As she rallied employees to return to work, her firm and heartfelt words inspired every member of the Siyao family: “Right now is the time when our country needs us most—Siyao people cannot afford to fall behind or bring shame upon ourselves.”

On New Year’s Eve—the very day when families gather together—yet in the oral dosage form workshop of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., the lights stayed on all night long. Despite enduring “aftereffects” left from her recent surgery, she stayed on-site throughout the night, directing and coordinating operations.
Effort never betrays those who are sincere. Thanks to her relentless efforts, the production lines for Abidol hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants were quickly restored, providing a steady supply of “provisions” and “ammunition” to ensure victory in the battle against the epidemic.
Faced with rapidly growing demand, raw and auxiliary materials have frequently been in short supply, severely hampering production at one point. “Everything else can be put on hold, but during the most critical phase of the epidemic, we simply cannot afford to compromise on safeguarding people’s health! Every additional pill we produce means an extra layer of protection for everyone’s health—and it boosts society’s confidence!” She overcame numerous difficulties and went to great lengths to mobilize all kinds of resources to support production. “Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has now cumulatively shipped 3.962 million Abidol capsules to Hubei Province, and its efforts to ensure production have been outstanding!” Just a few days ago, the provincial and municipal departments responsible for guaranteeing epidemic supplies gave high praise to Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical’s work in securing pandemic prevention and control supplies.
Who among us doesn’t have something deeply cherished in our hearts? It’s precisely because we harbor an even deeper, more profound love that we resolutely choose to brave the storms and hardships, standing as the most tender yet strongest bastion on the front lines of epidemic prevention and production.
After holding firm for more than 40 days, on International Women’s Day (“March 8”), Han Shuqin’s greatest concern—besides the company’s production—was her elderly mother.

After the outbreak, the production workshop became the frontline battleground for epidemic prevention and control. On this frontline battlefield, wherever there was a shining example, she would rush right there. Communist Party members who remained steadfastly on the “epidemic” front lines, ordinary female workers with deep compassion, and dedicated special representatives stationed at factories—all these individuals who dared to take responsibility—became the “protagonists” of her reporting.
Wu Yuqing is a publicity officer in the Party and Mass Work Department of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Company, having recently started her career. Lately, she has been constantly on the move, visiting the factory’s workshops, warehouses, fleet, and subsidiary companies, keeping abreast of first-hand information on the company’s epidemic prevention and control efforts at all times.
Early on January 25, she received a report that the factory would be urgently sending medicines to pharmaceutical distributors and hospitals in Wuhan and Enshi, Hubei Province. She keenly recognized her responsibility.
Grabbing my pen, notebook, and camera, I quickly put on my coat and mask and headed straight for the factory. Just then, my phone kept popping up with news alerts: 25 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across the country had activated Level-I responses to major public health emergencies—news that was deeply worrying.
“We need to publicize the company’s positive response and let society know what pharmaceutical companies are doing!” As she thought this, she took photos and gathered information.
Back home, I skipped dinner and immediately fired up my computer. Ideas poured forth like a spring—before I knew it, the article “Shi Si Yao Sends 100,000 Bags of Antibacterial Infusion Solutions to Hubei” was written in one go, and I swiftly submitted it to the province’s major media outlets.
“You’re really quick—Si Yao is the first pharmaceutical company from Shijiazhuang, and also from Hebei, to rush aid to Hubei. The article has been approved, and it’ll appear in tomorrow’s edition, with both print and digital versions being released simultaneously.” Late that evening, a phone call from the provincial newspaper’s editor filled her with great excitement.
Starting from January 25, she and her colleagues entered a state of full combat readiness. They conducted on-site interviews, edited manuscripts, produced videos, uploaded photos... Up to now, she and her colleagues have collectively produced and reported nearly over 200 articles and photo stories of various kinds. With dedication, pen in hand, and camera at the ready, they’ve been telling the world heartwarming stories that unfolded at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical during the epidemic fight. Many of these articles have been widely shared or excerpted by media outlets at all levels, new media platforms, and “Strong Nation” accounts, generating significant impact both within the company and throughout society.
