"On one hand, there’s the urgent need on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control; on the other hand, there are equipment issues that are hindering progress. The contradiction between the production and sales of disinfectants is becoming increasingly apparent. The director and staff of the disinfectant production line in Workshop 102 at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. are all deeply anxious—what should they do?"
"On one hand, there’s the urgent need on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control; on the other hand, there are equipment constraints that are proving increasingly problematic. The contradiction between the production and sales of disinfectants is becoming ever more pronounced. The director and staff of the disinfectant production line in Workshop 102 at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. are all deeply anxious—what should they do?"
On January 28—the fourth day of the first lunar month—Director Mi Junqing from Workshop 103, who works at the Shijiazhuang Sihua High-tech Zone factory, heard the news and volunteered to provide support. That very night, he conducted a detailed analysis of the disinfectant production capacity and began devising and designing a renovation plan.
The new-generation disinfectant is a composite quaternary ammonium salt-based disinfectant product manufactured by Shisi Pharmaceutical. It is used for daily disinfection and protection in medical institutions, pharmaceutical and food enterprises, as well as households. Under normal circumstances, the daily production capacity closely matches the facility’s operational capacity.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, demand for hygiene, disinfection, and protective supplies has surged. Despite more than 150 employees working overtime around the clock, it remains difficult to meet market demand. How to improve equipment efficiency has suddenly become a major challenge for Workshop 102 at Shisi Pharmaceutical.
“The epidemic is an order, and ensuring safety is our responsibility. ‘I’m a Communist Party member—I have a duty to take the lead.’” Mi Junqing, who has eight years of Party membership, has been working around the clock since the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, modifying and debugging filling machines and conveyor belts. “I’m doing this not for anything else—just so we can produce one more bottle of disinfectant. The more we produce, the greater the assurance of everyone’s health, and the stronger our confidence in overcoming the epidemic,” he said firmly in a hoarse voice.
From the filling machine to the conveyor belt, and from the conveyor belt to the bottling machine—repeated mechanical trials were conducted dozens of times. Faced with the technical challenges along the way, he pondered tirelessly, paying no heed to rest or even taking a sip of water. After two days and two nights of intense modifications, the filling machine was finally revamped and successfully upgraded! “From relying on manual filling in the past to now using automated machinery for bottling, we’ve not only effectively ensured both quality and output, but also increased daily production capacity of disinfectant—from 10,000 bottles to the current 40,000 bottles. As a result, efficiency and working conditions have greatly improved.”
Now, whenever the leaders of Shisi Pharmaceutical and the employees of Workshop 102 see him, they give him a thumbs-up. “As long as I can do my bit to fight the epidemic, a little tiredness or hardship doesn’t matter at all! After all, I’m a Party member—this is only natural,” he says with a simple, honest smile.
