Dr. Sun Lijie, holder of the Shijiazhuang City Talent Green Card—Type A, provincial-level expert, and Director of the Pharmaceutical Research Institute at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., explained that since the outbreak began, the Sihua Pharmaceutical Research Institute has swiftly adjusted and re-prioritized its ongoing research projects. Specifically, drug development programs related to the epidemic have been moved to the forefront, and efforts have been stepped up to conduct consistency evaluations and further studies on antiviral and antibiotic drugs—including moxifloxacin and linezolid—that are targeted against COVID-19. The institute is also expediting the submission of these studies to the National Medical Products Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation.
Sun Lijie said that Abidol hydrochloride capsules are a broad-spectrum antiviral drug that Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. developed relatively early in China. Currently, the company’s Abidol hydrochloride capsules have been included in the epidemic prevention and control product reserve catalogs or green channels for antiviral medications in 23 provinces. Abidol was first added to China’s National Medical Insurance Catalog in 2019 and was also listed as a recommended clinical medication for the treatment of viral influenza by China’s National Health Commission. During the Spring Festival period, the Hebei Provincial Drug Administration swiftly approved the filing of the association between Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical Group’s self-produced Abidol hydrochloride raw material and Abidol hydrochloride capsules, thereby ensuring the supply of clinical antiviral drugs.
Building on this foundation, Sun Lijie has also led his team to continuously develop a series of new antiviral drugs and has already initiated a project to conduct research on new drugs targeting the novel coronavirus.

During the Spring Festival holiday, Sun Lijie and all core R&D personnel reported to work, staying firmly at their posts while taking proper protective measures. They worked more than ten hours each day, racing against the virus every minute and every second.
“As a drug development team, it is our professional duty to fight the virus with all our expertise. At the same time, as researchers, we have a certain understanding of the novel coronavirus. I hope everyone can avoid excessive panic and trust that, with the whole nation standing together in this battle, we will surely win the fight against the epidemic,” said Sun Lijie.
