Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, demand for hygiene, disinfection, and protective supplies has surged. On February 2, at the new-concept disinfectant production line of Shijiazhuang Siyao Co., Ltd., located in the High-tech Zone of Shijiazhuang, employees were working intensely and busily. This state has continued for several days already, with more than 150 workers putting in extra hours to produce at full capacity and ensure a steady supply to the market.

"On January 25—the first day of the Lunar New Year—we received notice from the factory that, due to the urgent need for disinfectants on the front lines of epidemic prevention and in the market, we would have to restart our production line. Many employees who had just returned home for the Spring Festival—some living in neighboring counties and cities, others even pregnant women—had barely settled down after arriving home when they hurriedly rushed back to their posts, overcoming numerous difficulties and making considerable sacrifices. During the nine consecutive days of production, employees worked overtime around the clock, doing their utmost to maintain inventory levels," said Han Shuqin, the company’s deputy general manager.
Han Huijuan is the packaging team leader in this workshop and is expecting a baby. Since production resumed, despite being six months pregnant, she has been faithfully sticking to her post every day, working overtime alongside her colleagues. She says, “My husband and I are both employees at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Company. We’re involved in pharmaceutical manufacturing to save lives. The more we produce, the greater the assurance of everyone’s health—and the stronger our confidence in overcoming the epidemic. It doesn’t matter if young people put in a little extra effort.”

Han Shuqin explained that Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical’s disinfectant products are primarily composed of quaternary ammonium compounds, which are used for daily disinfection and protection in medical institutions, pharmaceutical and food enterprises, as well as households. On January 24—the 30th day of the 12th lunar month—production of disinfectants had just been temporarily halted for the holiday. However, after the outbreak of the epidemic, the company, keeping the bigger picture in mind and in accordance with the requirements of relevant authorities, immediately mobilized its workers to work overtime and step up production of preventive medicines and disinfectant supplies. Currently, all production lines for preventive products—including disinfectants, antiviral drugs, and antibacterial medications—are fully operational, with 2,300 employees working tirelessly on the front lines of manufacturing these critical prevention and control products.
It’s not just the production lines that are bustling—Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical’s business operations are equally busy. “For 24 hours straight, we’ve been receiving calls from all over the country urging us to deliver products; coordinating between customers, production, warehousing, and transportation leaves us with no moment to spare—even taking a break to drink water is out of the question.” Wang Tiejun, manager of the Health Promotion Department, who’s responsible for selling the new-concept disinfectant, has been rushing back and forth between the workshop and the warehouse from morning till night these days, working tirelessly to coordinate and ensure smooth operations. “In the face of the epidemic, we’re working nonstop,” he said. Before Wang Tiejun could finish speaking, the phone rang again.

It is reported that Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical’s new-concept disinfectant resumed production on January 25, and its output is steadily increasing, currently nearing 40,000 bottles per day, with total production reaching 100,000 bottles (or containers). Some of these products have been dispatched to Hubei Province to support frontline epidemic prevention efforts. “As long as there is a need, we will go all out, do everything possible to overcome any difficulties and organize production, ensuring an adequate supply of medicines and disinfectants for the frontline fight against the epidemic. This is our pharmaceutical company’s responsibility and mission,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical.
