On February 3, the fourth round of national centralized drug procurement—highly anticipated by both society and the pharmaceutical industry—officially kicked off with bid opening in Shanghai. Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a key backbone pharmaceutical enterprise in Hebei Province and one of the top 100 pharmaceutical companies nationwide, won bids for all four specifications of two products it had submitted: doxofylline injection (10 mg: 0.1 g) and ambroxol hydrochloride injection (1 ml: 7.5 mg, 2 ml: 15 mg, 4 ml: 30 mg).

On February 3, the fourth round of national centralized drug procurement—highly anticipated by both society and the pharmaceutical industry—officially kicked off with bid opening in Shanghai. Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a key backbone pharmaceutical enterprise in Hebei Province and one of the top 100 pharmaceutical companies nationwide, won bids for all four specifications across two product categories: doxofylline injection (10mg:0.1g) and ambroxol hydrochloride injection (1ml:7.5mg, 2ml:15mg, 4ml:30mg). Upon receiving this news, the more than 4,000 employees of Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical, who are currently working hard to resume and reach full production capacity, felt greatly encouraged and their enthusiasm has soared.

Doxofylline Injection (10 mg: 0.1 g) and Ambroxol Hydrochloride Injection (1 ml: 7.5 mg, 2 ml: 15 mg, 4 ml: 30 mg) are newly developed aqueous injection products developed by Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical. In 2020, they were evaluated as having passed (or deemed to have passed) the bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence evaluation for generic drugs.
This national centralized procurement involves a total of 45 drug varieties and 80 specifications, including 8 injectable formulations, 3 ophthalmic solutions, and the remainder being oral preparations. The drugs primarily cover therapeutic areas such as hypertension, diabetes, digestive disorders, mental health conditions, and malignant tumors. Among these varieties, 99% are generic drugs that have passed the evaluation of quality and therapeutic equivalence, with only 2 being originator drugs. The substitution effect of generic drugs continues to be prominent.
National drug centralized procurement serves as a key indicator of the pharmaceutical industry’s business trends, directly influencing pharmaceutical companies’ product portfolios and market shares. As such, it draws considerable attention from both pharmaceutical firms and the broader public. According to available information, this round of centralized procurement involves more than five competing companies for 14 different drug products. Among these, over 10 companies are bidding for ambroxol hydrochloride injection, making the competition particularly fierce. Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has secured the contract thanks to its strong overall advantages. A responsible official from Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical stated that winning this bid is of great significance for the company to further optimize its product structure, accelerate the industrialization of new products, and cultivate and strengthen new growth drivers.
It is reported that patients across the country are expected to have access to the drugs that have been discounted through this centralized procurement starting in May 2021.
