In 2019, Shisi Pharmaceutical Group focused on strengthening its market penetration in key provinces and maintaining and consolidating its competitive advantages. The company placed great emphasis on adjusting its product mix, significantly increasing sales volume of therapeutic infusions, thereby ensuring robust production and sales performance. As a result, the company continued to be one of the fastest-growing enterprises in the large-volume parenteral solutions industry in terms of both output and sales revenue. Throughout the year, sales volume of the company’s flagship product—large-volume parenteral solutions—increased by approximately 5.6% year-on-year, and the proportion of therapeutic infusions in total large-volume parenteral solution sales rose to 22.3%, an increase of 2.6 percentage points over the previous year.
During this period, ampoule injection products experienced rapid growth. Throughout the year, sales of ampoule products reached HK$392 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 208%. In recent years, newly approved products have gradually gained market access in various regions, and the Group has been intensifying efforts to boost sales of these new products across different provinces. Among them, moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection has completed market access in 22 provinces and is now sold in 21 provinces. 2019 marked the product’s first full year of sales, during which sales successfully surpassed the HK$100 million mark. As market access and hospital development efforts continue to advance, the product is expected to maintain its strong growth momentum.
During this period, Shiyao Group further enhanced its technological innovation capabilities and gradually established a comprehensive, scientific, and well-defined technological innovation system. In 2019, the company successfully completed the re-evaluation of its National Enterprise Technology Center, National Demonstration Enterprise for Technological Innovation, National-Local Joint Laboratory, and Postdoctoral Research Workstation. The company also submitted applications to the National Intellectual Property Administration for the China Patent Award and the designation as a National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise, playing a crucial role in ensuring that the company continues to maintain a leading position among national enterprises in terms of technological innovation capability and level.
The Class 1 new drug NP-01 project of Shiyao Group has been submitted to the National Medical Products Administration for review. This marks the company’s first innovative drug candidate to be filed, signifying that the company has successfully advanced from generic drug development to a new stage of combining generic and innovative approaches. In terms of innovative drugs, the Class 1 anti-tumor new drug NP-01 is expected to begin Phase I clinical trials in the first half of 2020. The Class 1 new drug AND-9, targeting liver fibrosis, has fully entered preclinical pharmacological and toxicological studies, and is expected to submit its Phase I clinical trial registration application within this year. Currently, three highly active target compounds have been identified from the company’s independently developed series of compounds for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, and preclinical research is proceeding smoothly. The novel antiepileptic compound QO-83 has shown promising potential for drug development in preliminary animal experiments. The Class 2 anti-tumor chemical drug Mitoplatin is undergoing pharmacodynamic and safety evaluations as planned, and is expected to submit its clinical trial registration application within this year.
In addition, Shiyao Group continues to achieve remarkable R&D breakthroughs. Throughout the year, the company obtained 13 marketing approvals for generic drugs and 2 approvals for consistency evaluations. Among these, the cardiovascular drug tirofiban hydrochloride sodium injection, which is clinically used to treat acute coronary syndromes, is a therapeutic agent with great potential for clinical promotion and will become a key product driving the company’s performance growth. The approval of a series of peritoneal dialysis solutions, combined with the company’s existing hemodialysis products, will enable the company to enter the dialysis market, offering substantial room for market expansion. Hydroxyethyl starch 130 sodium chloride injection is poised to carve out a niche in both the blood volume and anesthesia markets. Three specifications of ambroxol ampoule products further enrich the company’s respiratory product portfolio. Furthermore, fluconazole tablets in two strengths—50mg and 150mg—have passed the consistency evaluation; notably, the 150mg specification is the first of its kind in China to receive such approval, and it is expected to demonstrate strong market potential in future national product bidding processes.
Looking ahead to 2020, Shiyao Group will maintain its leading position in the large-volume parenteral solutions market. Despite the impact of the pandemic on large-volume parenteral solutions sales in the first quarter of this year, the company aims to achieve an overall annual growth of approximately 3.56% in sales volume of various large-volume parenteral solutions compared to the previous year. The company will continue to increase the proportion of sales of therapeutic infusion products and further strengthen the marketing of its flagship therapeutic infusion products, such as moxifloxacin. Building on moxifloxacin’s breakthrough in sales exceeding 100 million yuan in 2019, the company is striving for a multiple-fold increase in its annual sales target. Furthermore, the company will continue to advance the R&D of new products and the implementation of consistency evaluations.
In addition, Shiyao Group will adhere to a development strategy that combines generic drug innovation with original research and development. Building on its expertise in injectable formulations, the company will maintain its technological and product leadership in the domestic large-volume parenteral solutions industry, and comprehensively advance the development of new therapeutic injectables, with a particular focus on therapeutic areas such as chronic diseases, respiratory system disorders, circulatory system conditions, emergency anesthesia, antipyretic and analgesic treatments, and novel anti-infective agents.
