People's Daily, Shijiazhuang, March 9—This year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 is particularly special for female workers who are fighting on the front lines of epidemic prevention and production.

They were once the well-behaved and adorable daughters in their parents’ eyes, the tender and virtuous wives in their husbands’ eyes, and the kind and loving mothers in their children’s eyes—ordinary people just like us. In the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, they donned their work uniforms as battle attire, fearlessly fighting on the front lines of production, giving their all day and night without rest, and demonstrating a sense of responsibility that truly embodies the spirit of “women are no less capable than men.”

In Shijiazhuang—the nation’s key pharmaceutical production base—many female employees from various pharmaceutical companies are working on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control, showcasing their most beautiful selves. This spring, “Flowers Welcoming Spring Amidst the Pandemic” are blooming bravely in the cold winds.

Rong Yanyan, the director of the oral dosage form workshop at Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical, who has continuously remained on her production post for a month and a half, is inspecting the appearance quality of products on the production line.

Even with gentle shoulders, they shoulder great responsibilities—women are no less capable than men.

Rong Yanyan is the workshop director of the oral dosage form department at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. On New Year’s Eve, after briefly settling her young children at home, she hurriedly headed to the factory, becoming one of the first “reverse commuters” at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical—and she stayed on the job for a full month and a half.

After more than forty days of intense activity, Rong Yanyan can no longer recall the specifics of when she volunteered—but the conviction that “If there’s a battle, we’ll answer the call and surely win” has firmly taken root in her heart.

Even with delicate shoulders, she shoulders great responsibilities—women are every bit as capable as men. The oral dosage-form workshop where she works is tasked with producing the antiviral drug abidor hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants that are stockpiled in preparation for potential outbreaks. Faced with one challenge after another following the resumption of production after the Spring Festival, she racked her brains to come up with solutions; when all else failed, she coordinated the company’s resources to find a way forward.

Before this frail yet resilient body, one problem after another was solved, and one obstacle after another was “cleared.” The joint transformation of Abidol capsules was a complete success, boosting efficiency by 20%. Meanwhile, the disinfectant production line, empowered by technology, has completely abandoned the “manpower-intensive approach,” resulting in a substantial increase in production capacity.

“The abidol capsules and disinfectants produced here have been continuously sent to the front lines of epidemic prevention and control. Hearing that patients in Wuhan are now using the medicines we’ve manufactured—and knowing that we’re contributing our humble efforts to cheering on Wuhan and China—fills me with a deep sense of responsibility and mission as a pharmaceutical professional.”

In her relatively small “territory,” she takes more than 30,000 steps every day. Her hurried pace bears witness to her busy and hardworking life. Like Rong Yanyan, workshop deputy directors Tian Lili and Yang Junhong also stick firmly to the front lines, working around the clock without rest.

On International Women’s Day, when asked about her wish, she said, “I’m a Party member—persevere, persevere, and keep persevering, until the moment we achieve victory over the epidemic!”

Han Shuqin (center), Deputy General Manager of Production at Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical, went deep into the front lines to coordinate and direct efforts, ensuring the successful completion of the mission to deliver medicines to Hubei Province.

We must not fall behind when the country needs us most.

Also working tirelessly on the front lines of epidemic prevention and production is Han Shuqin, the deputy general manager in charge of production at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. On January 24, when the company was set to resume production, she was at the hospital caring for her elderly mother who was ill. Upon receiving the call, she immediately got up, bid farewell to her aging mother—with a deep sense of guilt for not being able to care for her by her bedside—and rushed straight to the factory to throw herself into command and coordination efforts. As she rallied employees to return to work, she said, “Right now is the time when our country needs us most; the people of No. 4 Pharmaceutical cannot afford to fall behind or bring shame upon ourselves.”

On New Year’s Eve—the very day when families gather together—yet the oral dosage-form workshop at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical remained brightly lit. As the saying goes, “Effort never betrays those who are earnest.” Thanks to her relentless efforts, the production lines for abidol hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants were swiftly brought back online, providing a steady supply of “provisions” and “ammunition” to help us win the battle against the epidemic.

Faced with rapidly growing demand, raw and auxiliary materials have frequently been in short supply, severely hampering production at one point. “Everything else can be put on hold, but during the most critical phase of the epidemic, we simply cannot afford to compromise on safeguarding people’s health! Every extra unit we produce means an added layer of protection for everyone’s health—and more confidence for society!” She overcame numerous difficulties and went to great lengths to mobilize all kinds of resources to support production.

As of now, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has cumulatively shipped 3.962 million Abidor capsules to Hubei Province. In response, the Hebei Province epidemic supplies guarantee department praised Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical for its excellent job in production and supply assurance!

In Han Shuqin’s view, everyone carries deep concerns and heartfelt attachments in their hearts—but precisely because they harbor an even deeper, more profound love, many heroic women have chosen to brave all hardships and press forward undeterred. It is precisely their hard work on the front lines of production that has built the strongest “women’s fortress” against the epidemic.
