Zhang Yongqin, a truck driver, has been responsible for transporting pharmaceutical products for Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for many years.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Zhang Yongqin was among the first truck drivers from Shijiazhuang—and Hebei—to deliver medicine to Hubei Province. Following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Transport, drivers who had visited epidemic areas in Hubei other than Wuhan, provided their physical examinations were normal, would not be required to undergo the 14-day quarantine period in order to ensure an adequate supply of drivers to assist Hubei. Having driven more than 1,500 kilometers over three days, Zhang Yongqin didn’t take a single moment’s rest.
On February 3, at the request of Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical, he set off once again to deliver urgently needed medicines to Wuhan City. In the early hours of February 5, Zhang Yongqin returned to Baixiang County in Xingtai to refuel. Because he had just returned from Wuhan, he was detained by the local health authorities for quarantine. On February 8, he was transferred to a quarantine facility in Qiaoxi District, Shijiazhuang, where he continued his isolation.
On February 10, when Hebei Daily reporters contacted Zhang Yongqin again, he was undergoing quarantine at a designated isolation facility in Qiaoxi District, Shijiazhuang.
“I’m waiting for the results of the throat swab test, but right now my physical condition is completely normal,” Zhang Yongqin said with a relaxed tone.
“Knowing full well you’d have to go into quarantine upon returning, why did you still go to Wuhan?”
Faced with the reporter’s questions, Zhang Yongqin didn’t respond. Instead, he sent the reporter a video via WeChat.
In the video, a truck driver is sitting in the cab, chewing on a pancake while giving an interview.
“How do my family members feel about me going to Wuhan this time?”
“Hmm, everyone seems pretty happy.”
“They’re all quite supportive—why is that?”
“Because if you don’t have money, you can at least lend a hand, right?”
This video was filmed at noon on February 3, the day when Weichai Group donated 200 tons of vegetables to Wuhan. The man in the video is Li Baomin, the driver of the truck that delivered the donated vegetables that day.
After watching the video, Zhang Yong sent another message: “My colleague has already answered your question for me.”
