Recently, four government departments—the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Administration for Market Regulation—released the list of demonstration smart manufacturing factories and outstanding scenarios for 2022. Every stage of pharmaceutical R&D—ranging from digitalization of research experiments and clinical data mining to real-world studies, drug safety, digital therapeutics, and market data insights—cannot do without in-depth big data analysis. Particularly under the application and analysis of artificial intelligence and big data, numerous R&D bottlenecks—including drug structure design, target discovery and validation, lead compound optimization, candidate drug development, and clinical studies—can be effectively addressed. It is reported that, in order to implement the "14th Five-Year Plan for Intelligent Manufacturing Development," the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Administration for Market Regulation are jointly launching the 2022 Pilot Demonstration Initiative for Intelligent Manufacturing. This initiative aims to select a group of outstanding intelligent manufacturing scenarios, build a number of demonstration intelligent manufacturing plants through an open bidding and leadership-selection approach, establish leading enterprises across various industries and fields, and promote high-quality development of intelligent manufacturing.
