Hello, Mr. Liu, in the minds of ordinary people, it seems that every pharmaceutical company has a distinct odor. But when you come to our Sihua Pharmaceutical, the experience is completely different. As far as the eye can see, the entire facility is awash in greenery—not only is there no unpleasant smell, but you can even catch a faint floral fragrance, making it hard to associate this place with a large-scale pharmaceutical factory. So, what specific steps have we taken to build a “garden-style factory”?

Protecting the ecological environment and making rational use of social and natural resources are matters of great importance that benefit both the country and its people, bringing blessings to future generations. They also serve as the clean source and inexhaustible driving force behind Sihua Pharmaceutical’s unwavering commitment to staying true to our original aspiration and pursuing harmonious development. Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical was among the first in the industry to propose the development concept of “green pharmaceutical manufacturing,” integrating environmental protection and resource conservation into every single detail of daily management.

Water and land are both precious, non-renewable resources. As a major water user, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has been continuously reforming its production processes and strengthening the integrated utilization of water resources in order to conserve this valuable resource. We collect mid-stream water generated from processes such as bottle washing, stopper cleaning, and steam condensate, treat it, and then reuse it for watering plants, raising fish, operating fountains, taking showers, and replenishing circulating water systems—achieving a water utilization rate of 90%.

Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has taken land-use intensification to the extreme. Through scientific planning and rational layout, it has managed to maximize the economic and social benefits derived from its limited land resources. In terms of specific implementation, the company emphasizes the integration of “above-ground and underground” resources, making full use of both surface and subsurface space. As a result, it has successively built what was once the largest, earliest, and most highly automated three-dimensional logistics center in North China—a facility that boasts internationally advanced standards. The tall building right here next to me is precisely this three-dimensional logistics center, standing 24 meters high, 95 meters wide, and 150 meters long. It features more than 40,000 storage compartments, with its inventory capacity equivalent to seven times that of a conventional flat warehouse, thereby significantly conserving land. Currently, the company operates seven three-dimensional logistics centers of similar scale. Our approach to efficient land utilization has received high praise from the relevant authorities.

Now that we’ve talked about water and land, let’s move on to the production process. As you just mentioned, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical integrates the concept of green manufacturing into every single stage of its production. Could you give us some specific details on this?

Our production process is equally “green” and environmentally friendly. Especially with the construction of “smart” factories, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical’s production process management has become more precise, faster, and safer, significantly boosting production efficiency, enhancing product quality, and reducing energy consumption and various costs.

In the past, the light inspection station in the production workshop of Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical was the position with the highest demand for manual labor—every single product had to be visually inspected by human eyes to determine whether it was good or bad. Today, however, manual inspection has been completely replaced by automated light inspection machines. As a result, production line capacity has increased significantly, while the need for manpower has been drastically reduced. Under the control of the automated light inspection machine, each bottle of product can automatically generate 150 images, which are then analyzed by software to automatically identify defects. Defective products are automatically routed to the appropriate conveyor track, eliminating human error and ensuring that no defects slip through unnoticed. This has not only improved product quality but also greatly reduced the physical strain on employees.

By promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, upgrading technologies, and adopting new materials, new technologies, and new processes, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has achieved green and sustainable development and has successfully been included in the first batch of Green Factories designated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The “garden-style factory” we just talked about is something you can see. But the creation of a “green factory” carries even greater significance in the unseen aspects—such as the application of low-carbon technologies, the development of green growth hubs, and the transformation and upgrading of enterprises. In this regard, what specific measures have we taken, and what results have we achieved?

The ecological environment and enterprise development complement each other. To achieve green and sustainable development, we must rely on scientific and technological innovation.

Relying on innovation, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical continuously increases its investment in the R&D and manufacturing of green products, constantly improving the quality of its products and services. By adopting new technologies and processes, the company is accelerating its efforts to conserve energy and reduce consumption. In terms of equipment introduction and upgrades, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has always adhered to the principles of "innovation first, automation first, and energy conservation first," actively promoting the use of advanced technologies to transform traditional industries. Through the introduction of high-pressure negative-ion cleaning technology for plastic infusion bottles, the company has achieved waterless cleaning. Moreover, major power-consuming equipment in production lines—such as bottle-making machines, refrigeration units, and air compressors—have undergone technological upgrades, including the adoption of variable-frequency drives for energy savings, resulting in an average energy-saving rate of 28%.

Moreover, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has stepped up its investment by establishing an advanced energy management center and building a power and energy monitoring system. This system enables real-time, end-to-end monitoring of steam, electrical systems, circulating water, waste heat recovery systems, and more, providing instant insights into energy supply, consumption patterns, and equipment operating conditions. According to incomplete statistics, in recent years, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has invested over 200 million yuan in environmental protection facilities—including equipment for pollution control, wastewater treatment systems, noise reduction facilities, and solid waste disposal sites. Through continuous technological upgrades and the introduction of new technologies and equipment, the company has achieved “zero emissions” of environmental pollutants and has successfully transformed itself from a major energy consumer into a leading energy saver.
