On September 18, at the 2021 High-Quality Development Conference for the Greater Health Industry and the 6th China Pharmaceutical R&D & Innovation Summit (PDI) held in Chongqing, the Top 100 Ranking of China’s Chemical Drug R&D Strength for 2021 was released. Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. ranked 44th, once again making it into the top 50 Chinese companies in chemical pharmaceutical R&D strength.

R&D investment is one of the key indicators of innovative capability. According to data from Frost & Sullivan, R&D spending by innovative pharmaceutical companies has continued to grow over the past five years. From 2016 to 2020, China’s total R&D expenditure in the pharmaceutical sector increased from US$11.9 billion to US$27 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 22.7%. Among the companies listed, 24 had R&D expenditures exceeding 500 million yuan in 2020, and 8 had R&D investments surpassing 1 billion yuan.
With the implementation of policies such as “Generic Drug Consistency Evaluation,” “Volume-Based Procurement,” “Medical Insurance Negotiations,” and the “MAH System,” the market structure of the pharmaceutical industry is undergoing continuous adjustment and differentiation.
