It is reported that the fifth round of nationally organized centralized drug procurement involves 62 drug varieties—the largest number of varieties ever included in such a procurement. In terms of dosage forms, this round of centralized procurement covers a total of 30 injectable drug varieties, accounting for nearly 50% of the total. The total market sales of these injectables in 2020 amounted to 40 billion yuan, representing over 70% of the total procurement value and making them the dominant dosage form in this round of procurement.
Industry insiders said that this round of centralized procurement has achieved breakthroughs both in the number of drug varieties and in the scale of drugs procured. Moreover, unlike previous national centralized procurements in which injectables had a procurement cycle of only one year, the procurement cycle for injectables in this round is the same as that for oral formulations. The longer procurement cycle has further intensified competition among market players and enterprises.

The national centralized drug procurement program serves as a crucial indicator of the pharmaceutical industry’s business trends, directly influencing pharmaceutical companies’ product R&D and production operations. It thus receives close attention from both pharmaceutical firms and society at large. Passing the evaluation of bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence for generic drugs is an important pathway for pharmaceutical companies to participate in the national centralized drug procurement and accelerate their market entry. In recent years, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has established an innovative “four-wheel-drive” strategy that synergistically promotes consistency evaluation research alongside the development of innovative drugs, generic drugs, and active pharmaceutical ingredients. As a result, its innovative achievements have been steadily accumulating and now are beginning to yield significant results. To date, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has had 13 drug varieties—totaling 18 specifications—successfully pass the national evaluation of bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence for generic drugs or be deemed as having passed such evaluations. The number and pace of these approvals place it among the industry leaders.
