Liver fibrosis is a pathophysiological process characterized by the abnormal proliferation of connective tissue in the liver caused by various pathogenic factors. Any liver injury triggers a fibrotic response during the liver’s repair and healing process. If the underlying injurious factors persist over a long period, the fibrotic process will continue unabated, eventually progressing to cirrhosis and ultimately leading to liver failure or even liver cancer. Worldwide, there are numerous patients suffering from liver fibrosis, yet no effective therapeutic agents currently exist to reverse liver fibrosis.
Professor Dai Guifu from Zhengzhou University has led a team for more than ten years in tackling this challenge and has finally succeeded in developing a new breakthrough method—the innovative drug ADN-9. This drug is based on the natural herbal compound andrographolide and, through systematic molecular optimization and careful screening of indications, has yielded a drug molecule that demonstrates particularly remarkable efficacy in the treatment of liver fibrosis. Administered orally, ADN-9 boasts high efficiency, low toxicity, and multi-target synergistic effects, fully highlighting the therapeutic advantages of natural medicines in addressing complex diseases.
Professor Dai Guifu boasts outstanding research capabilities and has been recognized as the leader of the innovative science and technology team for “Research and Development of Anti-Infective and Anti-Tumor Drugs” in Henan Province, as well as a key expert in the major national science and technology project “Major New Drug Creation during the 13th Five-Year Plan.” To date, the research achievements of the ADN-9 project have resulted in more than twenty invention patents both domestically and internationally. Relevant data also indicate that the candidate drug ADN-9 exhibits unique biological effects and demonstrates excellent drug-likeness, supporting further in-depth research and development of ADN-9 under Category 1.1 of the chemical drug registration classification.
