Arbidol has been included again in the new version of the COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment guidelines.

On August 19, the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine issued the "Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (Trial Version 8)." In this latest version of the protocol, Arbidol has once again been included in antiviral treatment.

Previously, the team led by Li Lanjuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a member of the National Health Commission’s high-level expert panel, announced in Wuhan their latest research findings on the treatment of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus infection, confirming the clinical efficacy of Arbidol. On February 19, Arbidol was included for the first time in the Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (Trial Version 6). On March 4, Arbidol was once again added to the “Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (Trial Version 7).”
It is understood that Arbidol is an antiviral drug primarily used to treat upper respiratory tract infections caused by influenza viruses of types A and B, and it possesses broad-spectrum antiviral properties. It mainly works by inhibiting the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, thereby blocking the first step of viral infection. In addition, Arbidol can also induce the body to produce endogenous interferon, which not only interferes with viral replication but also helps regulate and enhance the body’s immune function. This multi-mechanism approach gives Arbidol an advantage in combating viruses. In 2019, it was included in the list of clinically recommended antiviral drugs issued by the National Health Commission.
Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical is one of the earliest pharmaceutical companies in China to develop the drug Arbidol. The hydrochloride Arbidol capsules it produces have played a positive role since the onset of this epidemic prevention and control effort and have been included on the reserve lists of COVID-19 prevention and control medications by multiple provinces and cities.
During the pandemic, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical conscientiously fulfilled its social responsibilities and made every effort to ensure the supply of Abidol Hydrochloride capsules. The company successfully completed the national allocation and provincial procurement and storage tasks, earning high praise from the Medical Supplies Guarantee Group of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism under the State Council for Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic, the Party Committee and government of the Shennongjia Forestry District, as well as relevant medical institutions and pharmaceutical commercial enterprises.
Currently, the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread. In response to the evolving epidemic situation overseas, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has stepped up to its social responsibility. While successfully fulfilling its domestic supply obligations for abidol hydrochloride capsules, the company has also actively ramped up production capacity to meet international market demand and contribute to the global fight against the pandemic. To date, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has reached preliminary export agreements for abidol hydrochloride capsules and other anti-pandemic drugs with more than 10 international partners, and some of these products have already been shipped.
