Yet Li Ligong, manager of the Storage and Transportation Department at Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., is a true “reverse traveler.” During this year’s Spring Festival, his busy figure could always be seen at the warehouse sites where supplies were dispatched to support the frontline efforts against the epidemic.
“He just can’t stay idle—he’s busy all year round, never having a moment to himself. You hardly ever see him at home, and he can’t help with anything around the house. I’d hoped that this spring break he’d finally have some time off to spend quality time with our two kids—but then, of course, the pandemic struck again. These days, we simply can’t do without him at his post, so he’s out early and comes home late, working from dawn till dusk. Right now is the busiest time for pharmaceutical companies; saving lives comes first, and the whole family really understands and supports him.” At this moment, Li Huì, Li Ligong’s wife, had tears welling up in her eyes.
At this special moment in the fight against the epidemic, faced with the urgent need for medications on the front lines of prevention and control, he deeply understands the importance of ensuring robust emergency storage and transportation support. “In these extraordinary times, coordinating transportation—especially inter-provincial transport—indeed presents numerous challenges. “Defending our territory is a duty, and fulfilling that duty to the best of our ability is our responsibility.” Over the past few days, the Storage and Transportation Department of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical has transformed—from being an enterprise’s operational support unit into the frontline force rushing to aid in epidemic prevention and control efforts. From New Year’s Eve through the fifth day of the first lunar month, the Storage and Transportation Department received four consecutive batches of emergency medicine supply assignments destined for Wuhan and other regions.
As soon as the instructions arrived, he went to great lengths to coordinate transportation capacity and direct the shipment of products. Faced with the current predicament of finding even a single truck hard to come by, he patiently and persistently reached out to one logistics company after another for assistance. “Under these circumstances—especially now that it’s the Spring Festival—it’s indeed much more challenging to coordinate transportation capacity. We simply have to make a hundredfold effort.” After six days of unwavering dedication, the Storage and Transportation Department successfully dispatched over 10,000 shipments of pharmaceuticals to Wuhan, Enshi, and neighboring provinces and cities in Hubei, smoothly completing the first-phase task of providing emergency medical supplies to support frontline prevention and control efforts. The department received high praise from its clients, who commended them, saying, “Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has done an excellent job in ensuring transportation and supply.”
Although the storage and transportation position may seem ordinary, it connects the very beginning and the very end of production and sales.
