On the afternoon of the 30th day of the 12th lunar month, medical institutions and state-owned pharmaceutical distribution companies in Wuhan and Enshi, Hubei Province, urgently called Shisi Pharmaceutical, requesting support with antimicrobial drugs such as moxifloxacin hydrochloride.
“The epidemic situation is severe, and human lives are at stake. The urgent clinical need is an order—sales, warehousing, and transportation will do their utmost to support the frontline efforts in Hubei.” At noon on the first day of the Lunar New Year, as soon as the two trucks designated for transport arrived, they immediately began loading 100,000 bags of moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium injection—a critical supply urgently needed in Hubei—and dispatched them to Wuhan and Enshi in Hubei, rushing to bolster the frontline fight against the epidemic.
After the outbreak, clinical institutions in Hubei, Beijing, and other regions urgently requested Shisi Pharmaceutical to supply additional antibacterial and antiviral drugs. “Given that it’s the Spring Festival period, there are indeed significant challenges in terms of manpower, transportation capacity, and the procurement of raw and auxiliary materials. However, the epidemic is an order, and we’re doing everything possible to increase our inventory, reallocate transportation resources, and ensure that frontline prevention and control efforts have sufficient drug supplies,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shisi Pharmaceutical, who was directing operations at the shipping site.
Faced with the urgent need on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control to combat viruses and antimicrobial drugs, Shisi Pharmaceutical promptly shortened its holiday period, mobilized all resources to ramp up production and expedite shipments, and even reassigned management personnel to assist in packaging and production at the frontline. On New Year’s Eve and the first day of the Lunar New Year, Shisi Pharmaceutical produced and put into storage over one million capsules of the antiviral drug Arbidol and 20,000 barrels of disinfectant. “We’ve accelerated the inspection process for these newly stored products and completed all reports by 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, ensuring we can meet shipping demands at any time,” said Wu Hengyao, General Manager of Shisi Pharmaceutical, at the dispatching site.
As the level of epidemic prevention and control continues to improve, treatment protocols and the range of clinically used pharmaceutical products have become increasingly clear. “Among these are antiviral and antibacterial drugs such as Arbidol and moxifloxacin hydrochloride injection, produced by our Shisi Pharmaceutical.”
On the 30th day of the 12th lunar month, Hubei, Beijing, Hebei, and other regions successively activated the Level-I response mechanism for major public health emergencies. The designated hospitals in Beijing also urgently contacted Shisi Pharmaceutical, requesting that they ensure the supply of antiviral, antibacterial drugs, and disinfectants during the Spring Festival. “On the one hand, we are stepping up production and stockpiling, maintaining close communication with the provincial and municipal health commissions and drug regulatory authorities as required, promptly reporting inventory levels, and making scientific arrangements for clinical and market supplies. On the other hand, staff from sales, transportation, supply, and finance departments will remain on duty throughout the holiday period, staying fully alert at all times. As soon as an order is issued, we’ll immediately organize shipments to meet the medication needs on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control,” said Wu Hengyao.
As demand for antibacterial and antiviral formulations rises, the API workshop at Shisi Pharmaceutical has promptly adjusted its holiday schedule and made arrangements to resume production ahead of time, ensuring that formulation production can proceed smoothly. “In the face of the epidemic, we in the pharmaceutical industry have an inescapable responsibility,” said Su Xuejun. “Our employees fully understand this and have eagerly volunteered to return to work.” He added, “At this critical juncture in the fight against the novel coronavirus, the responsibility and commitment of pharmaceutical professionals are being put to the test. We must go all out and absolutely not fall behind.”
